The Most Beautiful Pearl In The World
Australian South Sea Pearls

For centuries, Australian South Sea pearls have been regarded as the most desirable and valuable pearls to own.
Australian South Sea pearls are known for their "iridescence" - a sheer luster combined with a unique flood that makes them some of the finest pearls in the world.

Mother-of-Pearl

Generally speaking, the most beautiful pearls come from the mollusks with the most beautiful shells.

Australian South Sea mother-of-pearl

The Australian South Sea mother-of-pearl (P. maxima) is the largest and rarest of all mother-of-pearl oysters. It produces pearls with the finest nacres of all mollusks. Divers collect wild oysters with their bare hands in pristine waters of northwest Australia. These mother oysters are then sent to pearl farms for cultivation in the hope that they will produce gem-quality pearls. Not every mother oyster produces a pearl, and with the exception of rare contingencies, most mother oysters produce only one pearl at a time. The shell itself is highly valued for its mother-of-pearl luster. Shells can be used to make jewelry, high-quality buttons and inlays.

Australia's pristine marine environment is regarded as the source of the world's finest and largest pearls. Today, Australian South Sea pearls are produced almost exclusively in Australia, with their high transparency and flood light (known as their name). Only on pearls with fine nacres will the unique variations in surface color develop naturally. Chemical and thermal treatments of pearls from other regions may have similar effects.

Commercial-scale wild Pinctadas maxima can only be found in remote areas of northwestern Australia. These uncontaminated mother oyster beds are protected by the Australian Government's stringent quotas. Pinctada maxima is a rare, solitary creature that thrives only in waters rich in planktonic microorganisms. They are particularly sensitive to changes in environmental conditions, making them extremely difficult to farm.

Australian South Sea pearls are known as the best among pearls.

It is unmatched in rarity, quality, nacre thickness, natural color, size and value.

It is because of all these advantages that Australian South Sea pearls are so unique. Australian South Sea pearls are known for their extraordinary beauty - a beauty that is indescribable but captivating at first sight. Most of today's naturally transparent, "iridescent" South Sea pearls come from Australia. The terms "gloss" and "iridescence" are both used to describe the wonderful spectacle of light refracting from the inside out from the perfectly layered nacre. High-quality Australian South Sea pearls have good quality and thick nacre layers, and the number of layers can reach thousands. The natural beauty lasts for generations.

The "Five Grades" of Australian South Sea Pearls

Each pearl is sorted and graded according to these five grades, namely luster, surface, shape, color and size.
But you must also remember when choosing pearls: the beauty of pearls - and the ultimate value of pearls - varies from person to person, after all, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

Luster
Luster is the result of light interacting with nacre (the pearly, pearly organic material that forms the beads). The luster of natural pearls is timeless, unlike the surface brilliance of treated pearls, which generally fade over time. Pearls of exceptional quality will exhibit a phenomenon known as "orient", which is a spectacle formed by the wonderful superposition of the translucent layer and the colors on the surface of the pearl.

Surface
Pearls with flawless surfaces are very rare. The quality of pearls is affected by the number and visibility of imperfections. Obviously, obvious flaws can greatly reduce the charm and value of pearls.

Shape
Natural Australian South Sea pearls come in a variety of shapes, from round and drop-shaped to thread-shaped and baroque, each with its own modalities. The shape of the pearl does not affect its quality, but the demand for pearls of a particular shape will affect the value of the pearl. Pearls with perfectly symmetrical shapes such as round and teardrop are particularly rare and beloved by the world.

Size
The nacre of Australian South Sea pearls is usually very thick, ranging from 8mm to 15mm, sometimes even thicker. The thick nacre layer can make the beauty of pearls last for generations. South Sea pearls come in larger sizes, and occasionally even pearls over 20mm in size are found, and these pearls are certainly valuable. Rare is more valuable, and larger pearls are usually more valuable.

Color
The natural colour of Australian South Sea pearls usually reflects the refracted colour of the pearl oyster. The choice of pearl color, like the selection of pearl shape, is a matter of personal preference; the pursuit of pearls in a certain shade affects the value of the pearl. Australian South Sea pearls are generally white, silver, cream or gold.
